Judge Releases Fired Dracut High School Teacher

“I’m doing this for the good people of Dracut,” says Moulton, “because they are in the dark about what happened.”
Two springs ago, Moulton got into trouble after reading one of his English classes a tribute he wrote to one of his heroes – music legend Bob Dylan. “The man is a genius,” says Moulton with a broad smile.
But vulgarity and profanity in the short story got him suspended. His bosses then demanded a detailed written lesson plan going forward – and when he refused – he was canned.
“That’s what we might end up coming down to here,” says Moulton, “free speech in the classroom.”

They say she went too far, want more than just a slap on the wrist
Rep. Carl Wimmer, R-Herriman, opened a bill file this week and said he will introduce legislation in January that would enforce criminal penalties on teachers who deviate from state law governing sex education, which requires that it focus on physical and emotional development of adolescents, healthy relationships and the threat and prevention of diseases.
The law prohibits promoting or encouraging sexual behavior.
His bill also would create a registry to record the names of teachers who violate the law.
"Right now what a teacher is allowed to teach regarding sex education is very clearly defined in statute. The problem is that if a teacher violates that law or if an administrator allows that law to be violated, the only repercussion is administrative," Wimmer said.

A substitute teacher in Jacksonville, Florida has been suspended from her job this week after a student captured photographs of the educator wearing a phallic apparatus and pantomiming graphic, adult-oriented scenarios during class. Sharon Mercer is the 39-year-old substitute teacher who was hired to present a course in sexual education for a group of 6th grade students at Clinton Middle School. The School, which is located in Duval County, five minutes outside of Jacksonville, FL, is occupied by over 200 students, and teaches grades 5 to 9.
